How can we be Champions of Peace Blog Post

For the last four weeks of Term 3 we were learning about ‘How we can be Champions of Peace’.

Firstly we learnt about the different symbols of peace. A dove, an olive branch, the two finger peace sign and the peace circle sign.

These symbols represent peace because of the dove and olive branch because in the story Noah’s ark in the bible a dove returned to the ark after the flood with an olive branch. The V two finger symbol was introduced in the 1941 Vietnam war to mean peace between allies. And the circle peace sign or the CND signs means it was used during the anti nuclear weapons movement and in the sign you can see a C, a N and a D.

With these symbols in mind I created a Peace Artwork. I created an image of the yin yang circle but instead of using the little symbols in the middle of the yin yang I used two of the peace symbols: the V finger symbol and the CND circle symbol.

We also researched some real life champions of peace and wrote a short biography. I wrote about Ardie Savea. I thought this person was a champion of peace because of the way he leads his rugby team the All Blacks even though he isn’t the captain he is still one of the main leaders of the team. Other players from different teams have shared about his respect and peace between teams. After most of his games the first thing he will do is go over to the other team and thank them and shake their hands even before talking to his own team.

We also created a peace prayer book. I have attached my peace prayer book here.

I enjoyed learning about peace because I got to see all the different people and symbols of different parts of the world.

One way I plan on being a champion of peace is by keeping being peaceful and spreading peace in everything I do.

Are you a peace spreader?

Maths Geomatry

Hi, For this week for math our task was to randomly choose any 6 shapes we wanted. then make a symmetrical tile floor one side the same as the other.  After we had done that we had to use complementary colors like ones you thought would look good Then we had to blog it. I hope you like my blog

Do you now know what symmetry is?

Reading week 3

Kia ora, this week for reading we had a choice of story to read. I chose to read by the river. It was about a school that went on camp by a river and a girl there enjoyed playing with her friends in the activities but she would rather sit by the peaceful river by herself and get calm. She was scared of heights but she still the water slide. after trying a lot of new stuff she would go to the river and chill out by herself. I liked the story because it shows how people can have a busy day but still find a way to get calm and peaceful. Before I read the story I put down my predictions by looking at the photos and the title. I put my predictions down on a template then I read the Story and looked if my predictions were correct mid way through the story. Then after I finished reading I put what really happened in the story and what I would change in my predictions. Here is my Product.

Have you ever read this story?

Science

In Science we have been learning about electricity. We did 4 experiments such as making  torch, a circuit, a battery and to see if a car can connect with the sun.

One of the experiments we did was a battery power.

Materials: 4 nails (2 copper 2 zinc), buzzer, Beaker labelled ‘T’ full of tap water, empty specimen jar, jar with salt, plastic spoon, empty beaker labelled ‘S’, several tissues.

Before conducting my experiment I thought that it wasn’t gonna make a sound and didn’t think it would work.

After finishing my experiment I found out that my hypothesis was incorrect because it worked it made a loud buzzing sound.

Out of all the experiments we did I really enjoyed doing the battery power because it was the only experiment that worked for my group and i found it really interesting.

If I was to do this experiment again or something similar I now know that you need different types of nails.

Something I found interesting during this learning was that the salt is one of the generators of the buzzing sound.

Something I found challenging was the first experimenter I did where it didn’t work and I kept trying.

Black Out Poem

For Writing today I had to make some black out poems. The first one that we did everyone had the same story but the second time we did it we got to choose out of a few story’s, I chose a rugby one about a recap of the All Blacks and Argentina game.

A black out poem is when you make a poem out of story with different sentences and word to make a poem. Once you find your words you circle them and then black out the rest of the page.

My first Poem was this: The tin woodman would not let her die but the scarecrow is killing us all.

All Blacks Poem: The All Blacks conjured clinic led by a show of force by the forward pack that carried powerfully and the All Blacks Back line thrived.

Math Create

For math this week I spun a wheel with Hotcakes, Porridge, Sausage and Hot Chocolate. After I spun the wheel 45 times I got Porridge 10 times, Hotcakes 14 times, Sausages 11 times and Hot chocolate 10 times. I put my data onto a google sheet and made some graphs i made two graphs. I made a Pie Chart and a columm graph. Then I put the graphs into a google drawing, here it is.

If you could pick whats your favorite breakfast?

Poster for Porridge Play

For Art this week we had to make art piece that reflects on some sort of message. Me, Mason and James made a abstract Artwork about Being different. Last week I made a story cover for the story that i’m making. My story is about 2 rugby players that go up against each other and battle for the dally m award. they have fights on the field but then they became friends. The cover shoes there state of origin teams logo and there International team logo. Here it is.

If you saw this cover would you read the book?

Smart Rugby Ball

This week my goal was to use questions to challenge the text, question the author, establish the authenticity of the text and state opinions. I read a article about a smart rugby ball. The ball can track the distance, pressure and speed. I made a Poster to show my opinion of this invention. I would Buy one.

Would you buy one of these balls?
